SECURITY OF AIRGUNS
New guidance to prevent under 18′s accessing airguns.
Airguns must be locked up. The government has introduced a new offence to stop under 18′s gaining unauthorised use of airguns.
From the 10th February 2011 owners are liable to a £1000 fine if they fail to take reasonable precautions to prevent airguns falling into the hands of under 18′s.
A definition of reasonable precautions will depend on each individual case and cannot be defined at this time. However it is suggested that the following criteria will apply.
Store airguns out of sight and separate from pellets.
Use a robust lockable cupboard and keep keys separate and secure.
Store airguns inside a house rather than in a garden shed.
Do not store loaded airguns.
When shooting always keep the airgun in sight and never leave unattended.
